Deadlock
A lock incorporating an unsprung bolt, usually rectangular in shape, which is locked and unlocked by key only. Alternatively, a thumbturn can be used to provide free exit.
Detection zone
Area covered by the field of a presence or overhead sensor on an Automatic Entrance Doorset.
Door closure
A device for closing a doorleaf utilising stored energy.
Door furniture
Fittings mounted either on or within a doorleaf, usually both functional and decorative, and including handles, locks, closures, letterboxes etc.
Doorframe
Construction provided for a doorleaf to close and seal against, comprising of vertical side jambs and horizontal head rail.

Construction for closing a clear opening, intended primarily for access, and with hinged, pivoted, revolving or sliding operation.
Doorset
Complete construction for an opening, to comprise of a combination of doorleaves, doorframes, sidescreens and transoms
Doorway opening
Dimensions between jambs (width) and between finished floor level and the head rail (height).
Double leaf
Configuration of two doorleaves, either hinging or sliding.
Escutcheon
Plate fitted around the edge of a key cylinder, to offer a neat appearance and prevent key damage to paint finishes.
Face plate
Trim plate that is the only part of a fitted mortice lock that is visible.
Fingertrap protection
Device (usually rubber extension) applied to the back edge stile of a hinging doorleaf or to the hinge jamb adjacent to the doorleaf, to prevent injury to hands and fingers.
Free exit
Means of operation of a doorleaf to vacate a building by all traffic, and which does not require a keyholder or 3rd party to open.
Glazing beading
Frame member that retains glazing or solid panels in place around the full perimeter. Clip-in beading is removable, to allow for the installation and replacement of glazing or solid panels, and fixed beading (also know as security beading) is not.
Glazing gasket
Synthetic rubber extrusion, to form a seal between glazing and beading.
Head rail
Framed horizontal edge member, which forms the top of a doorframe or sidescreen.
Header
Unit fitted above an Automatic Entrance Door, which contains the door operator and control system. For a Sliding Automatic Entrance Doorset, the header also contains the sliding track and is therefore the full width of the door travel.
Hold-open time
Adjustable facility which varies the time that an Automatic Entrance Door remains in the open position before closing.
Inactive doorleaf
Doorleaf of a double leaf doorset that can be left locked or unlocked when the active doorleaf is in use. Also referred to as a Passive doorleaf.
Intermediate transom rail
Narrow horizontal frame member in a sidescreen in line with the head rail of the doorframe when a transom exists.
Jamb
Vertical side member in a structural opening or doorframe.
Latchlock
A lock incorporating a spring loaded bolt, bevelled on its striking face which operates automatically when the doorleaf is closed. Withdrawn by key, thumbturn or handle. Also known as a 'spring bolt.'
Laybar
Narrow horizontal frame member set between the top rail and bottom rail on a doorleaf, or between the head rail and cill on a sidescreen.
Leading edge stile
Framed vertical edge member, which forms the front of a doorleaf.
Lintel
The horizontal head of an opening in a wall.
Manual activation
Where an Automatic Entrance Door movement is initiated by a physical action, e.g. pushing the door, using a push-button, a key switch or controlled entry device.
Meeting stile
Framed vertical edge member of a doorleaf that abuts another in a double leaf doorset.
Midrail
Wide horizontal frame member set between the top rail and bottom rail on a doorleaf, or between the head rail and cill on a sidescreen.
